Our working parties are three groups which usually meet on Friday mornings.
The Working Party (Ramblers Working Party)
This group aims to meet fortnightly usually starting at 10.00 am and finishing no later than 1.00 pm. They spend the morning inspecting the footpaths, bridleways, tracks and lanes in the area, checking and reporting issues such as broken stiles or gates, signage problems or concerns with vegetation. They undertake minor maintenance such as cutting back bushes with secateurs and loppers and replacing waymarks but refer major work to West Berkshire Council for action.
The Power Tool Group
To tackle the heavy summer vegetation growth, the Power Tool group is trained to use a range of battery-powered trimmers and hedge cutters and is advised by West Berkshire Council as to which paths should be cleared.
The Gate Group
This team works on an ad hoc basis in collaboration with West Berkshire Council, mainly to replace stiles with gates though it occasionally installs other types of structures. Members of the team go out several times a year and the team has completed over 350 installations as at December 2025.
All equipment is supplied and training is given where necessary.
