Nuthanger Down: At a cross-roads on the Old Burghclere/Kingsclere road, just east of Sydmonton, take the narrow lane heading south (signposted to Ashley Warren, Cole Henley and Whitchurch). Follow this to the top of a steep winding hill and, just after the Wayfarers Walk crosses the lane, park considerately on the right-hand grass verge, grid ref SU492566. We start and finish on the Wayfarers Walk and in between we pass Hare Warren Farm, Caesar's Belt and the top of Watership Down. This is a fairly hilly downland walk, but with wonderful views and no stiles.6.1mile / 9.8km

The Short Walk starts here, and we continue down through the beautiful village of Painswick and on down Painswick Valley to Stratford Park (on the NW outskirts of Stroud), where the coach will be waiting for us. There’s a Leisure Centre and a Museum in the Park, both of which serve refreshments, and a Brewers Fayre (The Old Nelson) on Stratford Road, just outside the Park. The centre of Stroud is about half a mile away.There will be three linear walks; each with a different starting point, but all finishing at the same place. The coach will leave The Bus Station, Market Street, Newbury (grid ref SU471668) at 08:30 am. Price: £12 per person - cheques payable to West Berks Ramblers. It follows the Wysis Way for a while, via Sneedham’s Green and over the M5, to Windsor Cottage on the B4073 (grid reference SO857135). The route continues to follow the Wysis Way, via Cud Hill Common viewpoint, up on to Painswick Beacon (283 metres high), from where there are outstanding views of Gloucester and Cheltenham, as well as the Malvern and Clee Hills to the north, the Brecon Beacons to the west and the Severn estuary to the south.
